Antique Tole / Punched Tin Mirror, 19th Century Folk Art, Mexico?
Mirror directly from the attic of a local Mendham, NJ estate which had been in the same family since the 18th century. Retains a 19th century label of a New York frame shop, however this may have been a retailer or perhaps did a repair at some point. There were other important paintings from this same estate with the same label.
An impressive and unique form with large urn in the center and foliate ears to each side. All hand worked from sheets of tin metal. Mirror plate is clean and in a good state of preservation.
Condition: Minor rust and oxidation to the metal. Mounting bracket for cornice is stable, but must be handled carefully.
Measurements: 49-1/2″H x 36″W x 2-1/4″D; Mirror portion: 28-1/2″H x 20″W; Base measures 27-3/4″W
