A Federal String Inlaid Mahogany Chest of Drawers, American, c1810
A Federal String Inlaid Mahogany Chest of Drawers, American, c1810
A Federal chest coming directly from a wealthy Short Hills, NJ estate that was filled with Early American antiques. This descended in a wealthy NY / NJ family who went back to the 18th century. Nice proportions and lines. Notice the wood grain on the top surface.
Condition: Losses to the string inlay. Drawers need runners replaced, as some are worn down heavly around the nails, which has started to dig into the case. Drawers do not sit flush with the case. Missing one spur to the apron. One brass escutcheon replaced, one partially missing. General wear to the finish. One foot missing the glue block center. All feet are stable and drawers work, but I wouldn’t recommend use on a daily basis.
Measurements:
36″ H x 43 1/2″ W x 19 1/2″ D
