A Federal Mahogany Shield Back Settee, 3 Chairback, Chippendale, Heart Shaped
An early mahogany settee with triple chair backs in a Hepplewhite designed carved splat. Fine detail throughout with damask silk upholstery. Value is in the lines and proportions. Dates early to late 19th century.
Settee is directly from a local estate where it descended in the Gray family of Wilmington, DE. This line inherited the bulk of their estate from Senator George Gray and his wife Harriet L. Black. This is possibly a New York piece, but could also be English.
Condition: Signs of old repairs throughout the splat. Upholstery is stained and worn. Overall current condition is stable. It sits well and can hold plenty of weight. No need for any restoration unless you desire it to be perfect. Great lines look excellent against a white wall in a hallway.
Measurements: 38 1/2" H x 55 1/2" W x 18 1/2" D x 19" Seat height
