A Mario Buatta for John Widdicomb Regency Style Mahogany Partners Desk Greek Key
Outstanding large partners desk designed by Mario Buatta for the John Widdicomb Company. Purchased through a decorator in NYC for a large home in Short Hills, NJ, probably the mid 1990s. Very well made, all solid mahogany with inset leather writing surface. The Greek key pattern around the apron is applied along with the brass festoons. Very heavy and large desk.
Three drawers are concealed in the apron on one side and one center drawer on the opposite. Drawers are large and open easily. The fluted legs with acanthus carved capitals are mounted on large solid brass casters.
Condition: Normal wear from years of use as a computer desk. There is chipping to the finish around the inside legs on just one side. General wear and scratches to the top surface. Current condition is overall good, just general wear consistent with age.
Another example of this rare desk can be found offered for sale for $16,500.
